[Image taken 25.5.22] Waitrose, Foss Islands Road, York. Car parks are polluted and unpleasant places. They are also potentially dangerous for everyone moving around outside of a car (and stressful for a driver inside). All too often supermarket staff do not think about the effect positioning wares outside of the outlet might have on customer movement and safety. (Other example: #182298.) Putting the plant display trolley here means most of the car parking space is free. The driver returned to her vehicle as I was taking the photo. She said she hadn’t noticed she was overlapping the pedestrian 'lane’ through the car park to/from the shop entrance. (As I watched several drivers came round the corner passing between this vehicle and the one in the space opposite, not in shot. Even the smallest vehicles came very close to this red one. Underlining my statement about pedestrian safety.) The trolley should be somewhere else entirely (so customers could get to it and browse safely). Or the space should be used for displaying wares such that people can get to/from and look at the items in safety but leaving no space for a vehicle to park and no ambiguity over whether the space is available for parking in. The street view image here shows a display trolley in the space but also cones. It is likely there were used to keep drivers out. But the street view shot is from when there was a (standard-setting) cycle and trailer parking space here (see: #174776). The presence of the trolley means it can't be used as labelled. Other images here today and links: #182861.
