[Image taken on 2.4.22] Clifton Green, York. Cycles only locked by the wheel to something are vulnerable. The cycle has disappeared. The wheel and the chunky lock remain. This suggests the cycle has been stolen and the only secured part, the wheel, has been left. Perhaps the wheel had skewers and was quick release. That makes maintenance eaiser but also theft. There’s also another lock on the rack. This often shows that someone uses the rack often but is unable or unwilling to carry the heavy, dirty lock around with them. The racks and the bollards that protect the racks and the cycles in them from manoeuvring vehicles (good practice) are rusting. This are racks that are clearly needed and clearly used but the lack of maintenance makes them look run down and they seem to be attracting rubbish as well as thieves.
